Aston Villa are reportedly set to sign former Chelsea player Ross Barkley for the second time, but this time, permanently after he joined them on loan four years ago after leaving the Blues.

The Guardian confirmed the news on its official website on Monday, May 20, 2024, according to reports from the club Aston Villa are looking to see Ross Barkley join them in the summer because of his experience and the amount it would cost them to bring in the former Chelsea player.

Why does Aston Villa want Ross Barkley?

Villa will be looking to strengthen their squad as they will be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season for the first time since the 1982/83 season.

What will Barkley bring to Aston Villa?

The 30-year-old was fantastic for the relegated side, Luton Town, in the 2023/24 football season. The content of Barkley's contract was not revealed to the public, but it is expected that there will be a clause that can allow him to leave when the transfer window opens in June 2024.

Ross Barkley has never hidden his love to play in top-flight football and also play in European competitions.

He said,

"I want to play in the Premier League. I want to play in Europe again. I feel like for the next three years, maybe I’ll still be in my prime years.”

There are also reports that Manchester United are looking at the possibility of signing the former Chelsea player.
