Nigeria Professional Football League side, Rivers United appoints the former Super Eagles coach, Finidi George as its manager ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The news of Finidi George's appointment was confirmed on the club's official X account on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. According to reports from Rivers United, he will be unveiled to the supporters on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

He left his role as Nigeria's coach just a month after being appointed, following his failure to secure a win for the Super Eagles in the 2026 World Cup qualifying games against Benin Republic and South Africa. His time at the job was cut short by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF)'s decision to search for a foreign manager to take over as technical adviser.

What did Finidi George say about his appointment?

"I am honored to have this opportunity, and I thank the Sports Commissioner, the General Manager, and the supporters for their confidence in me. I am committed to working hard and making the team win."

Why did Rivers United appoint Finidi George?

The 53-year old will be bringing his experience from Enyimba to Rivers United where he led them to winning the Nigeria Professional Football League during the three years, he spent at the club. His appointment will be welcomed by the club's supporters, as they look to rebuild after a difficult campaign last season under sacked manager Stanley Eguma.
