Man United legend Rio Ferdinand has given the club’s latest signing Leny Yoro advice on how to succeed with the Red Devils.

Lille and Man United have now completed a £52 million ($68m) deal for the transfer of Leny Yoro and the Red Devils made his announcement official with the Frenchman receiving a video message from Ferdinand, who advised the 18-year-old on how to succeed with the club.

The fee the Red Devils pay Lille might increase to up to £60m, the young talent has agreed and signed a five-year contract with the Premier League side through 2029.

Lille finished fourth last season and the 18-year-old centre-back was named in the team of the season after scoring twice in 32 Ligue 1 games.

In the video message for Yoro, the United legend said:

"Leny, Leny, Leny, how you doing bro? Listen, congratulations. Welcome to Manchester United man. I wish you all the best. I know you’re going to work hard, and that’s the secret, man. Work hard. Work hard. Work, work, work on all your parts of the game. You’ve got all the potential. You’ve got all the tools, man. You’ve got everything there. Ready to rock and roll to make a big impact at this club. It’s the best club in the world. It’s a beautiful place to be in. Go and enjoy yourself, man. I’ll see you soon. Good luck. Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. Leny, Leny, Leny”.

The young talent is a right-footed central defender, Yoro defends the central spaces well, whether aggressively or in a more controlled fashion. He has frequently played the role of covering centre-back, or last defender.

Lenny Yoro had an outstanding season with Lille, prompting Manchester United to pay £50 million for him despite only one year remaining on his contract with the French club. Real Madrid had shown interest in signing the 18-year-old but were unwilling to spend as much.

Yoro is anticipated to form a defensive partnership with Argentina international Lisandro Martinez for most of the 2024/25 season, provided both players remain injury-free. Club supporters are hopeful that this partnership will lead to more victories and fewer goals conceded once the season begins.
