The captain of Chelsea Football Club, Reece James has for the first time spoken in public about Enzo Fernandez's racial chants against France players.

Reece James was speaking in an interview with ESPN where he was asked about what is the situation of things in Chelsea following the incident. According to the defender, he has spoken with Enzo Fernandez but not at full length because of a difference in time zones.

What did Reece James say about Fernandez racial chants?

"Of course. There’s always the factor where it doesn’t sit right with people when there could be a problem. But until the day comes where everyone’s together and in a room together, I don’t know, but I hope things can be resolved smoothly and we can move forward with the season.”

What happened between Enzo Fernandez and France's players?

Recall that, Fernandez and his Argentine teammates were seen in a video posted on the official Instagram account of the midfielder singing racial songs against France players. This incident did not sit well with some of the French players at Chelsea as they saw it as a racial act.

However, Fernandez has sent an apology to everyone who felt insulted by the video. Chelsea and the Premier League have also released a statement to condemn the act.

What did Enzo Fernandez say?

He said,

“I want to apologise sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations. The song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words. I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologise for getting caught up in the euphoria of our Copa America celebrations. That video, that moment, those words, do not reflect my beliefs or my character. I am truly sorry.”

Chelsea supporters will hope that this incident gets settled among the players when Fernandez returns from his summer break.
