7 outstanding records that were set at Euro 2024

The Euro 2024 will probably go down as one of the most interesting and competitive in history with a lot of records broken and new ones being set.

Spain became the first team in the history of the European Championship to be crowned winner of the competition four times after their 2-1 victory over England in the final game of the Euro 2024.

Spain was crowned Champions of Euro 2024 by becoming the first team to win seven games at the Euros, a feat that will not be beaten anytime soonest anytime soon. There were a lot of records that were broken at this competition but we have decided to highlight those records that stood out during the competition.

Here are the seven outstanding records at Euro 2024

(1) England have become the first nation in UEFA European Championship history to lose consecutive finals, losing to Italy at Euro 2020 and Spain today.

(2) Cole Palmer’s equalising goal in the final against Spain was scored just two minutes and 22 seconds after he came off the bench, England’s fastest ever sub goal at the UEFA Euro. It was also the second fastest by a sub in a final, behind only Juan Mata in 2012 for Spain (1 minute, 40 seconds).

(3) Lamine Yamal became the first Spain player to register four assists in a single UEFA European Championship tournament. It is also the joint most any player has ever assisted at a single Euro that Opta has on record.

He is the youngest player to appear in either a UEFA Euro or FIFA World Cup final, aged 17 years and one day, breaking Pelé’s record from the 1958 World Cup final for Brazil against Sweden (17 years, 249 days).

(4) With Spain’s Lamine Yamal (aged 17) and England’s Kobbie Mainoo (aged 19) both starting the Euro 2024 final, two teenagers featured in the final of a UEFA Euro or FIFA World Cup final for the very first time.

(5) Jude Bellingham made his 15th appearance at a major tournament for England – at the age of 21 years and 15 days, he is the youngest player in the history of the UEFA Euro and FIFA World Cup to make 15 appearances across the two competitions. Coincidentally, the second-youngest player is Bukayo Saka, who also made his 15th appearance in this match (22 years, 313 days).

(6) Luka Modric also wrote his name into the history books by becoming the oldest player to score in Euro history while Yamal was the youngest to score in the competition.

(7) Bukayo Saka is just the third England player to score a penalty in a major tournament shootout having missed one previously, along with Stuart Pearce (missed in 1990, scored in 1996) and Steven Gerrard (missed in 2006, scored in 2012).
