Manchester United defender, Raphael Varane has made a shocking announcement about his future with the French national team.

Varane made the announcement of his decision to leave the team on Thursday, February 2nd, 2023. He is the third French player to announce his retirement after the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, the other two players are Hugo Lloris and Karim Benzema.

Representing our great country for a decade has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Every time I wore this special Blue jersey, I felt immense proud. The duty to give it all plus my heart out and win every time we put on the field. I have been contemplating this for several months and deciding it is the right time for me to retire Internationally. I will miss those moments with you for sure but the time has come for the new generation to take over, who deserve a chance and who need you.

The 30-year-old made his debut for France in 2013, he has 93 caps to his name of which he captained the team on 20 occasions. He won the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Nations League winner.
