The 36-year-old is the fourth F1 driver to be knighted, after Sir Jack Brabham, Sir Stirling Moss and Sir Jackie Stewart and he is the first to be honoured with the award while he is still competing. Hamilton is currently tied with Michael Schumacher, who has seven Formula 1 Championship.

The Brit was looking forward to becoming the first person to win eight Formula 1 championship, but that dream was cut short by Red Bull's driver, Verstappen, on the final lap of Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
