Pierre Emerick Aubameyang leaves Chelsea as a free agent

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has left Chelsea Football Club as a free agent to join Ligue 1 side, Olympique Marseille.

The news of the Gabonese international was announced on the official website of both Chelsea and Marseille on Friday, July 21, 2023. Aubameyang joined Chelsea from Barcelona during the 2022 summer transfer window but failed to scratch the surface of whatever expectations that the Blues had when he was brought in from Spain.

Chelsea's former manager, Thomas Tuchel was the reason why the former Arsenal player joined the Blues. However, the German was sacked just a few weeks after Auba joined the club.

He was also frozen out of the team when Graham Potter was appointed and he is also not in the plans of Mauricio Pochettino going into next season.

The 33-year-old scored three goals for Chelsea, all of which came in the space of ten days in October. Aubameyang scored against Crystal Palace in the Premier League and back-to-back Champions League group stage matches against AC Milan.
