The Spaniard was speaking in a post-match press conference ahead of the second-round Carabao Cup game against Liverpool. He said the reason for renewing his contract was not because of the UEFA Champions but it was one of the reasons he decided to extend his contract.

I admit that it is the trophy that we want, of course, my period here will not be complete of we don't win it. It is not the reason I extended my contract. I will do everything in this time that we have together, it is the trophy that we don't have and we will try to win it.

Manchester City have won every domestic trophy since the appointment of Guardiola but the have failed to lay their hands of the holy grail. They have been close to winning the UEFA Champions League trophy in the last two seasons, lost the 2020/21 season final to Chelsea and got knocked out by Real Madrid in the semi-finals last season.

However, football fans around the world believe this is the season the Cityzens will win the league because of the arrival of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
