Manchester City fans could be saying goodbye to their longest-serving manager, Pep Guardiola, who would leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season.

There have been multiple reports that Guardiola will not be at the dugout at the Etihad when the 2026/27 season kicks off. Manchester City could make an official statement after City’s final Premier League game against Aston Villa.

Guardiola has spent 10 years at the Etihad since joining in 2016, turning City into one of the most dominant teams in world football. During his reign, City won several major trophies, including six Premier League titles, multiple domestic cups, and the club’s first UEFA Champions League trophy.

Who will replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City?

Former Chelsea and Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca is heavily linked as the leading candidate to replace Guardiola. Maresca previously worked under Guardiola at Manchester City and is viewed internally as someone capable of continuing the club’s football philosophy.

However, there is still no official confirmation from Manchester City or Guardiola himself. Recall that Guardiola has insisted that he is happy at the club and previously hinted he could stay until the end of his contract in 2027.

Pep Guardiola has enjoyed a historic spell at Manchester City, winning 19 major trophies during his time at the club, including six Premier League titles, two UEFA Champions League trophies, three FA Cups, five EFL Cups, two FA Community Shields, and one FIFA Club World Cup, making him the most successful manager in Manchester City’s history.
