Former Manchester United player and manager Ole Gunnar Solksjær could be on his way back to the Premier League to join Manchester United.

The Dutchman has been one of the names highlighted as a possible replacement for Ruben Amorim who was recently sacked by Manchester United. Transfer news expert, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Erik Ten Hag is willing to help his Former club stabilise during the period until a permanent manager is confirmed.

Manchester United's board have started weighing their options for a short-term replacement until the end of this season. If Solksjær is confirmed as the interim manager, this will be the second time he has managed Manchester United on an interim basis.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s time at Manchester United began in December 2018 when he was appointed interim manager following José Mourinho’s dismissal. He immediately lifted the mood around the club, guiding United to an impressive run of results that included memorable away victories over Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham.

His early success earned him the role on a permanent basis in March 2019. Solskjær placed strong emphasis on attacking football, youth development, and restoring the club’s identity, giving opportunities to academy graduates while building a core around players like Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and Luke Shaw.

Despite steady progress, Solskjær’s reign was marked by inconsistency and a failure to secure major silverware. He led United to a second-place finish in the Premier League in the 2020/21 season and reached several semi-finals, as well as the Europa League final, where they lost to Villarreal on penalties.

However, poor results at the start of the 2021/22 campaign, combined with defensive struggles and tactical criticism, led to his dismissal in November 2021. While his tenure ended without trophies, Solskjær is often credited with stabilising the club after a turbulent period and laying foundations for future rebuilding.
