CAF confirms official date for AFCON 2025

The body governing football in Africa, CAF has confirmed the dates for the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 after a series of rumors concerning when the competition will kick off.

CAF announced during a virtual meeting on Friday, June 20, 2024, that according to the body, AFCON 2025 will kick off in mid-December and end mid-January. The competition was originally fixed for the summer of 2025, but CAF had to look for a new date due to the expanded FIFA Club World Cup scheduled for the same period.

The draw for the 2025 AFCON will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, next month, July 2024, while the qualifying matches will start in September 2024 ahead of the most lucrative football competition in Africa. The previous AFCON edition was held in Cote D’Ivoire in January and February of this year
