Here are the Nigerian players who have been crowned Premier League champions following their title wins with their clubs.

Nigeria’s rich football history is filled with iconic names, but only a few have reached the pinnacle of English football by winning the Premier League. With this in mind, we have compiled a list of the only Nigerian players who have won the Premier League title with their various club sides.

Who was the first Nigerian player to win the Premier League?

Nwankwo Kanu became the first Nigerian footballer to win the Premier League, securing the title with Arsenal in the 2001/2002 season. He later achieved the feat again as part of the iconic "Invincibles" squad in 2003/2004, when Arsenal completed the entire league campaign without a single defeat.

Kanu is arguably the most celebrated Nigerian footballer in Premier League history. After successful spells at Ajax and Inter Milan, he joined Arsenal in 1999 and quickly became a fan favourite with his flair, creativity, and technical brilliance.

Kanu made vital contributions, often coming off the bench to turn games around. He was part of the 2001/2002 double-winning squad and, most famously, a member of the historic “Invincibles” team in 2003/2004 that went the entire league season unbeaten. His unforgettable hat-trick against Chelsea in 1999 and his elegant playing style continue to inspire young African footballers.

John Obi Mikel – Chelsea (2009/2010, 2014/2015)

John Obi Mikel’s time at Chelsea was marked by consistency, loyalty, and silverware. Signed in 2006 after a controversial transfer saga involving Manchester United, Mikel spent 11 years at Stamford Bridge. Though he began as an attacking midfielder in his youth, he evolved into a solid defensive anchor under José Mourinho and other top managers.

Mikel was a crucial part of Chelsea’s 2009/10 Premier League-winning team under Carlo Ancelotti, a season in which the club also secured the FA Cup.

He won his second Premier League title in 2014/15, once again under Mourinho. In total, Mikel won every major trophy available at club level with Chelsea, cementing his status as one of Nigeria’s most successful exports.

Victor Moses – Chelsea (2016/2017)

Victor Moses’ journey to Premier League glory is a story of perseverance. After joining Chelsea in 2012, he spent several seasons on loan at clubs like Liverpool, Stoke City, and West Ham, often appearing to be on the fringes of the squad.

However, the arrival of Antonio Conte in 2016 changed everything. Conte converted Moses into a wing-back in his 3-4-3 system, a move that proved instrumental to Chelsea’s success.

Moses became a revelation in that role, playing a key part as Chelsea went on to win the Premier League title in the 2016–17 season. His tireless work rate, attacking runs, and defensive discipline made him one of the standout players of the campaign.
