The Nigerian Government has suspended Nigeria from all basketball competitions internationally for the next two years.

The news was confirmed by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr, Sunday Dare on Thursday, May 12th, 2022. According to the minister, the decision was taken by the government because of the ending crisis between the two factions of the Nigerian basketball committee.

Following the unending crisis which have plagued and nearly crippled the development of basketball in Nigeria, President Buhari has approved the withdrawal of Nigeria from all international basketball competitions for a period of two years. This is with immediate effect. This will also allow for the setting up of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the management and development of the domestic basketball leagues in Nigeria.

The minister has urged all the stakeholders involved in the country's basketball community as the government is looking to find a lasting solution to the crisis.
