Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappe has been omitted from France's October 2024 international break squad.

France head coach Didier Deschamps has released his squad list for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Israel and Belgium to be played during the October 2024 international break period.

To the surprise of many, the Real Madrid striker, Kylian Mbappe has been exempted from the squad and this is following the injury he sustained in Madrid’s game against Spanish team, Alavés on the 24th of September, 2024.

Following the La Liga game, reports were that the injury was serious enough to keep the striker sidelined for three weeks or even more, however, the youngster appeared to have been fit enough to come off the bench in Madrid’s 1-0 defeat away at Lille in the Champions League on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

Despite his earlier-than-planned return, Deschamps has opted to keep his captain out of the squad, a move many believe is to ensure that he can get adequate rest and recovery at Madrid.

Mbappe is not the only one out of the squad, as the French team is also missing Ferland Mendy and Adrien Rabiot, Deschamps selected Christopher Nkunku who is making his return to the squad for the first time since after the 2022 World Cup, Michael Olise and Bradley Barcola to help fill the gap left by the absences of Mbappé as well as the Atlético Madrid veteran, Antoine Griezmann who recently announced and confirmed his retirement from international football.

On October 11, France will play Israel in Budapest. On October 14, they will go to Brussels to play Belgium, the team would be looking to return to winning ways in the Nations League following a poor run of form in all tournaments so far since after the 2022 World Cup.
