Mauricio Pochettno explains why he substituted Reece James against Everton

Chelsea Football Club suffered another disappointing out in the Premier League at Merseyside after failing to beat Everton, in addition to losing its captain, Reece James to an injury that he suffered in the first half.

The manager of the club, Mauricio Pochettino explained his decision to substitute Reece James in the game against Everton. The Argentine international confirmed while speaking at the post-match press conference after the game at Goodison Park which was played on Sunday, December 10, 2023, that the defender suffered a hamstring injury.

He said,

"He felt something in his hamstring. It's not so nice for him to suffer another injury. He is an important player. For us is an important player, one of the best footballers in the world. Really disappointed. This type of circumstances has to change because [Malo] Gusto is still recovering. The team was good even when Reece was out but disappointed. In the end when you believe you can build something with a player that should be really important for us."

Chelsea have been hit with injury to most of its key players since the start of the 2023/24 season. However, the supporters of th club will hope they can some of them back before they face Sheffield United next in the Premier League.
