BREAKING: Mauricio Pochettino leaves Chelsea by mutual consent

Mauricio Pochettino has left Chelsea Football Club by mutual consent after meeting with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali.

The news was confirmed on the official website of Chelsea on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. According to reports from the club, there was no bad blood between the club and Mauricio Pochettino as both parties decided to go their separate ways.

The decision was taken after both parties met for two days to discuss the way forward going into the 2024/25 season. However, the decision to leave Chelsea was taken on Tuesday after long hours of meetings.

Chelsea's official statement on Pochettino's exit

"On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career."

Pochettino's Statement

Mauricio thanked the club for the love and support in the past season and he also wished them well ahead of the new season.

"Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club's history. The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come."

Possible replacement for Mauricio Pochettino

Transfer News expert, Fabrizio Romano has initially confirmed that Chelsea will be looking to replace Pochettino with a young coach who might not be as experienced as the Argentine.

However, the possible names on the radar of the club are Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, Girona’s Michel, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, who is also being monitored by Brighton and Manchester United, and Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca.
