Mason Mount returns to Chelsea after eight months

SHARE

Mason Mount, one of Chelsea's homegrown talents, will return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since he left his boyhood club during the 2023 summer transfer window.

However, he will not be wearing the blue of Chelsea but instead the red of Manchester United when they face the Blues in a crucial match for both teams on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Mount will aim to make an impact for United and help them secure maximum points as they strive to finish in the top four at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Mount left Chelsea in a rather unceremonious manner after he repeatedly agreed to a new contract, but both parties could not reach a transfer fee.

Why did Mount leave Chelsea?

When asked about why he left Chelsea, the midfielder explained that it was a difficult decision, but he felt that joining Manchester United would provide the challenge he needed for the next phase of his football career.

He stated,

"It is never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies."

United supporters will hope that Mount will score a goal against Chelsea if he gets the opportunity to be selected by Erik Ten Hag.
