Arteta reveals Martin Odegaard's return date for Arsenal
Arsenal's head coach Mikel Arteta has revealed the return date of the club's captain, Martin Odegaard from injury in the 2024/2025 season.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Martin Odegaard’s ankle injury will keep him sidelined until after the October 2024 international break.
Martin Odegaard’s return date is still uncertain, but Mikel Arteta provided an update on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, stating it will be “a matter of weeks” before Odegaard is back in action. However, Arteta also mentioned that it’s unlikely Odegaard will return before the international break.
Odegaard suffered an ankle injury on September 9, 2024, during Norway’s UEFA Nations League win over Austria, and initial estimates suggested a three-week recovery period. Arteta’s cautious approach to Odegaard’s return is understandable, given the significance of the injury and the player’s importance to the team.
“I think it will be a matter of weeks,” Arteta said regarding a timeframe for Ødegaard’s absence. “How long exactly, I cannot tell you. We might get a surprise but I think it’s unlikely he returns before the international break” he also added.
That would mean Arsenal will have to cope without their captain for games against Bolton, Leicester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Southampton. Their first match after the international hiatus is at Bournemouth on Oct. 19.
Here are some of Arsenal’s players that are currently injured:
- Mikel Merino: Shoulder fracture, expected return date October 19.
- Oleksandr Zinchenko: Calf injury, expected return date unknown.
- Takehiro Tomiyasu: Knee injury, expected return date September 28.
- Kieran Tierney: Hamstring injury, expected return date unknown.
