Official Manchester United statement on Lisandro Martinez's injury

Manchester United have released an official statement on Lisandro Martinez who suffered an injury in the Premier League game against Crystal Palace.

The club confirmed that the Argentine suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament which has probably ruled him out for the rest of this season (2024/25). According to Manchester United, Lisandro Martinez is currently being assessed determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for his rehabilitation.

What happened to Lisandro Martinez?

Martinez was carried off on a stretcher in tears after he tangled with the Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr in the 82nd minute of United's 2-0 Premier League defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday, February 3, 2025.

"Manchester United can confirm that Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace. Assessment of the injury is ongoing to determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for his rehabilitation. Everyone at Manchester United wishes Lisandro Martinez strength for a successful recovery and we will be supporting him every step of the way."

The 27-year-old has suffered a number of significant injuries since he joined United from Ajax in July 2022. He had in the past missed the final six weeks of the 2022-23 season with a fractured metatarsal and he required corrective surgery in September 2023 that kept him out for four months.

Manchester United are currently in 13th place in the Premier League table with 29 points after playing 24 games which is below the standard of the club.

The Red Devils will shift their attention to the FA Cup with a fourth-round clash against Leicester City. Ruben Amorim will be hoping his side can avoid another shocking defeat after his side lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday.
