Manchester United have completed the signing of Joshua Zirkzee as he becomes the first player to join the Red Devils this summer ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The announcement was made on the official website of Manchester United on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Joshua Zirkzee signed a five-year deal at the club which will keep him at Old Trafford at least until 2029 with an option to extend by an extra year.

The youngster will bring his experience to Manchester United following his experience from last season with Bologna. He was named the 2023/24 Serie A Under-23 Player of the Year, and was Bologna FC’s top goalscorer last season, helping his team qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

The 23-year-old Netherlands international earlier won six trophies during his time with Bayern Munich.

Why did Joshua Zirkzee decide to join Manchester United?

The Dutchman confirmed in his first interview with the club that it was an easy decision for him after he spoke with Erik Ten Hag.

He said,

"Having had discussions with the manager and the leaders of the club I know how exciting the future is going to be here and I cannot wait to play my part in achieving success for Manchester United. I am a player who has always dedicated everything to winning; I’m ready for this next challenge, to go to another level in my career and win more trophies. It is a privilege to join such an iconic club. I have to take a short break now after being with the national team, but I’ll be coming back ready to make an impact straight away."

Manchester United supporters will hope that Zirkzee will replicate his form with Bologna at Old Trafford when the 2024/25 season officially kicks off.
