Manchester City completes its first signing of the January transfer window

Manchester City have confirmed its first official signing of the 2024 January transfer window, Claudio Echeverri from River Plate.

The Cityzens confirmed the signing of the 18-year-old on its official website on Thursday, January 25, 2024. However, he will remain at River before moving to the Etihad Stadium in January next year (2025).

He was the captain of Argentina at the Under-17 World Cup in November 2023 where he scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 quarter-final victory over Brazil. However, they were eliminated on penalties in the semi-finals by Germany but he picked up the bronze ball as the tournament’s third top scorer.

Echeverri is the second player to join Manchester City from River Plate since Julian Alvarez joined the treble winners in 2022.
