Bernardo Silva has been named as the new captain of Manchester City football club ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Bernardo Silva will begin his role as the captain of Manchester City at the FIFA Club World Cup which is being hosted in the United States of America. City will begin their bid against Wydad at Lincoln Financial Field on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

The 30-year-old was asked about his future at Manchester City during the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Wydad.

He said,

"I know what I am going to do but it’s not the time to talk about that, I am very focused on my season. I’m very focused on performing well for Man City. When the time is due I will talk about it. I have one year on my contract so obviously I can leave next season. This season will for sure be with Man City. I’m going to stay. I’ve had options in the past and this year, like last year and this year, my option is to stay at Man City.”

The Portugal international is now entering his ninth season at the Etihad and after accepting the captain's armband.

The decision to confirm Silva as the captain of Manchester City was taken following the exit of Kevin de Bruyne at the end of last season. The Belgian has joined Serie A Champions Napoli on a two-year deal which will see him remain in Italy at least until 2027.
