Luka Modric signs a contract extension with Real Madrid

Real Madrid's maestro midfielder, Luka Modric has extended his contract with the La Liga giants for the next 12 months.

Real Madrid confirmed the contract extension of Luka Modric on its official website on Monday, June 26th, 2023. The new contract is expected to see him play at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2024.

The captain of the Croatia men's national team was initially linked with a move to the Saudi Professional League. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the midfielder received a record-breaking salary for the player which he decided to turn down because he still wants to play competitive football.

The 37-year-old has won 23 trophies during his 11 years at the club, which includes five UEFA Champions League titles, as well as three La Liga on three occasions and two Copas del Rey.

Modric finished second with Croatia in the UEFA Nations League losing to Spain on penalties, however, he is yet to announce whether he will retire from international football, or if he will continue until the 2024 European Championship next summer.
