The supporters of Newcastle United were left in the seventh heaven after they thrashed Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Champions League.

The game against the Ligue 1 champions was played at Saint James' Park on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. This was Newcastle's first home game in the competition for the first time in 20 years.

The Magpies started the game like a house on fire with Miguel Almiron scoring the opening goal, and Dan Burn making it 2-0 before the half-time break. Longstaff and Fabian Schar scored in the second half, and Hernandez scored the consolation goal for PSG as the game ended 4-1.

PSG's manager, Luis Enrique reacted after the game stating that he was only disappointed with his team's performance in the final third of the pitch.

" There was no problem with the attitude of my players. Maybe you saw another match. The attitude was optimal. The result is fair, but the score is excessive. I'm happy with what the players did, except in the last 30 metres."

Newcastle lead the group with four points after two games, they face Borussia Dortmund next in a double-headed fixture.
