Luis Enrique Leaves the Spanish National Team by Mutual Consent

The Spanish Football Association has announced the departure of Luis Enrique's contract after his country's exit from the World Cup.

The decision was made after a meeting was held between the both parties following the disappointing performance at the ongoing Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. Spain were knocked out of the Round of 16 by Morocco on penalty shoot-outs after failing to score a kick out of their three spot kicks.

The news was confirmed on the official website of the Spanish Football Federation on Thursday, December 8th, 2022. According to reports, the federation wishes Luis Enrique and his team the best of luck in their future professional projects.

The 52-year-old was appointed Spain coach in July 2018 but stepped down for a period a year later due to the death of his young daughter, Xana, from bone cancer.

Spain had started their World Cup campaign with a 7-0 thrashing of Costa Rica but was held to a draw by Germany before losing against Japan. He qualified them ( Spain) for two Final Four of the UEFA Nations League, of the three he played as a coach; and he reached the semifinals of Euro 2020.
