The Lakers were without their masked man, Lebron James because of an injury which was the key reason they lost to the West Conference leaders. The 17 times NBA Champion finished a place off the expected spot for a place in the playoffs.

NBA teams from seventh to the tenth position in both Eastern and Western Conferences progress to the playoffs. Two teams from each division can then secure a place in the end-of-season play-offs via the play-ins route.

The Lakers needed victory in their game following an earlier result that saw San Antonio Spurs beat Denver Nuggets 116-97.
