Liverpool star Luis Diaz's parents kidnapped in Colombia

In a shocking turn of events, the parents of Liverpool star Luis Diaz have been kidnapped in Colombia. The security forces have, however, confirmed that they have rescued his mother, but the footballer's father still remains missing.

The news of the kidnap of Luis Diaz's parents broke on Saturday, October 28, 2023. The details surrounding the situation have not been clarified, but according to Sky Sports, his parents were kidnapped on their way back home by gunmen on motorbikes.

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, confirmed that Diaz's mother, Cilenis Marulanda, was rescued by the police "In a padlock operation in Barrancas, Luis Diaz's mother has been rescued, we continue the search for the father."

It has also been revealed that the military is also working on securing the release of the football star's father. The Colombian Football Federation also shared a statement that read, "The Colombian Football Federation rejects the security situation that the parents of our player Luis Díaz are going through. From the FCF, we express our solidarity with him and his entire family, and we call for the relevant authorities to act as quickly as possible to resolve the situation."

Liverpool also released a statement on the situation. The statement read, "Liverpool Football Club can confirm it is aware of an ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia. It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity. In the meantime, the player’s welfare will continue to be our immediate priority."
