Check out the latest update on Lionel Messi's match fitness after a heartbreaking injury which he picked up in the Copa America 2024 finals.

The match fitness level of Lionel Messi following the injury he picked up in the Copa America 2024 final fixture against Colombia has been confirmed by both the player and his club coach.

The most decorated player in history, with 45 trophies, secured his second continental title as Argentina successfully defended their crown on U.S. soil. An extra-time goal from Lautaro Martinez clinched a dramatic victory over Colombia.

Messi, visibly emotional after suffering an ankle injury, raised concerns about his fitness before returning to MLS side Inter Miami. Although his absence is unclear, the 37-year-old, eight-time Ballon d'Or winner indicated he wouldn't be out for long.

Inter Miami give fresh updates on Lionel Messi's injury

Inter Miami's superstar Lionel Messi is set to miss the next two matches for the club after injuring his right ankle during the 2024 Copa América final.

This information was shared by Miami coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

Following further tests, the MLS club announced that Messi “has suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle.” The statement also mentioned that Messi’s “availability will be determined by periodic assessments and the progress of his recovery.”

Inter Miami is scheduled to play against Toronto FC on Wednesday night and Chicago Fire on Saturday night.
