Lionel Messi Breaks Cristiano Ronaldo's Long-Standing Record
Paris Saint-Germain forward player, Lionel Messi has written his name in the history books of football by breaking a long-standing record which was held by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi scored PSG's goal, and in doing so became the all-time top scorer in Europe's top five leagues with (496), surpassing Ronaldo. The Argentine achieved this feat on Saturday, May 27th, 2023 in the game against Salzburg away from home.
Messi scored most of these goals while he was playing for Barcelona before he joined PSG in the 2021 summer transfer window. He is now the most decorated player in football history, alongside Dani Alves, with a total of 43 trophies.
PSG were also crowned Champions of the Ligue 1 for the 11th time while Kylian Mbappe emerged as the winner of the golden boot award by finding the back of the net 28 times.
