Latest update on Lisandro Martinez's injury

It is a bit of good and bad news for Manchester United supporters as it concerns the injury to Argentine international, Lisandro Martinez.

The defender picked up an injury in the 3-0 victory over West Ham in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday, February 4, 2024. There were concerns from the fans that he might be out of the season but reports from the club has shown that he might be out for six to eight weeks and he would not be needing a surgery.

Manchester United confirmed in a statement that the 26-year-old sprained a medial collateral ligament in the knee after he collided with West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal in the 68th minute of the match.

Martinez recently returned from injury after he missed more than three months recovering from surgery on a broken metatarsal in his foot. That was his second surgery on the issue, having previously undergone a procedure in April that cut short his first season at Old Trafford.

The Argentine joined United from Ajax for £47million in the 2022 summer transfer window. He played 45 times in all competitions for United last season, missing the last nine Premier League games with that foot injury.

He has only played 10 games for the Red Devils this season, the game against West Ham is his seventh league start of the campaign.
