Here is the latest update from Liverpool on the injury of their new forward, Alexander Isak as the January 2026 transfer window approaches.

Liverpool forward Alexander Isak is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a serious leg injury during the Reds' 2-1 victory over Tottenham this past Saturday in the latest update shared by the club. The Swedish international underwent surgery on Monday to repair a fractured fibula and associated ankle damage.

While the club has not provided an exact return date, manager Arne Slot confirmed on Tuesday that the recovery process will likely span several months.

The injury occurred as Isak was scoring, when Spurs defender Micky van de Ven lunged in with a sliding challenge to block the shot. Despite finding the back of the net, Isak was unable to celebrate, immediately signaling for help from the medical staff.

Slot was vocal in his criticism of the tackle, labeling it "reckless."

"If you make that challenge ten times, there's a high probability of a serious injury every single time," Slot remarked, contrasting the incident with a recent, less dangerous challenge from Xavi Simons.

This latest setback is a significant blow for the 26-year-old, whose debut season at Liverpool has been hampered by fitness issues. Key points regarding his tenure so far include:

  • Transfer Fee: Joined from Newcastle this summer for a club-record £125 million.
  • Previous Injuries: Already missed five matches between October and November due to a groin problem.
  • Current Form: Has struggled for consistency, netting only 3 goals in 16 appearances.

Isak will now begin his rehabilitation at the AXA Training Centre. Liverpool's medical team will monitor his progress before determining when he might return to first-team action.
