La Liga referee leaves the Euros 2024 with immediate effect

Reports now indicate that a Spanish La Liga referee has left the UEFA Euros 2024 tournament with immediate effect making him unavailable for the round of 16.

A referee from the Spanish La Liga at Euros 2024 has abruptly left the tournament after being reportedly dismissed by the tournament organisers, UEFA.

According to Sports bible, Gil Manzano will not be refereeing any more matches at Euro 2024. He is returning home after officiating just one match—France vs. Austria—where he booked Kylian Mbappe for reentering the pitch without his instruction. Reports suggest Manzano is needed in Spain, as a 'Spanish representative on the arbitration commission is urgently needed'.

However, Sports Bible speculates that UEFA has 'dismissed' Manzano due to his performance at Euro 2024.

Manzano, known for officiating several El Clasico matches, gained negative attention last season when he sent off Jude Bellingham during a controversial La Liga game between Valencia and Real Madrid. He blew his whistle just moments before Bellingham scored for Real against Valencia, which led to Bellingham's protest and subsequent sending-off.

Manzano faced heavy criticism for disallowing Bellingham's goal and reportedly received an unofficial two-match ban, as he was not assigned to referee for two La Liga game weeks. Consequently, Manzano will not be officiating any matches in the knockout stages of Euro 2024.
