In a transfer many did not see coming, Croatian maestro Mateo Kovacic has been unveiled as a player for Manchester City after his move from Chelsea has been confirmed today, Tuesday, June 27, 2023. Kovacic, who was instrumental in Chelsea's Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup win was signed by Man City in a deal reportedly worth almost 40 million pounds.
The announcement by Man City read, Manchester City have completed the signing of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea on a four-year deal. The 29-year-old made 221 appearances in five seasons at Chelsea, winning the Champions League, Europa League, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup, as well as collecting the club’s Player of the Year award in 2019/20. He has so far won 95 caps for Croatia and was a key part of his country’s squad that reached the 2018 World Cup final and finished third at last year’s tournament in Qatar. Kovacic said he was thrilled to be joining City where he says he can continue to develop under the guidance of manager Pep Guardiola and believes he is joining the finest team in world football.
The Croatian midfielder would be wearing jersey number eight (8) for Manchester City; this was the same jersey number for the midfielder during his stay at Stamford Bridge. Kovacic also opened up on his move to Manchester. he revealed this would be a unique experience for him as a player and it would be an honour for him to play under Pep Guardiola.
