Reports now indicate that Man City have identified a possible replacement for the injured Rodri ahead of the January 2025 transfer window.

Following the official confirmation that Spanish midfielder Rodri would be out for Man City for the entire 2024/2025 season due to injury, reports and speculation of a possible replacement being signed in the January 2025 transfer window has been revealed.

According to Spanish Publication Relevo, the Premier League champions want to take advantage of Zubimendi’s £50.3m ($65.8m/€60m) release clause and make a move for him in a few months, as the Spaniard is still yet to sign a new contract with his current club.

Rodri will be out for the rest of the season, and his injury has made the Pep Guardiola-led Manchester City look of an alternative in Martin Zubimendi, with the club ready to spend €60m to bring the Liverpool target to the Etihad Stadium in January.

The potential of Martin Zubimendi’s move to Manchester City is unknown, and if he decides to move to the Premier League champions  Manchester City amidst interest from clubs like Liverpool his chances of playtime in the return of Rodri next season remain to be seen.

Rodri’s injury leaves Manchester City’s midfield vulnerable, and the signing of a top-class player is very crucial in ensuring the entirety of the 2024/2025 club football campaign does not go to waste.

Although Mateo Kovacic and Rico Lewis have been playing a huge role in filling the defensive midfielder position temporarily, a natural in that position will go a long way in ensuring stability in Guardiola's team.

Before the January 2025 transfer window opens in a few short months, City who are second on the Premier League behind Liverpool, will return to English Premier League action after the October international break on October 20, 2024 and will be away to Wolves.
