Italy FA confirms the appointment of Roberto Mancini

Italy have officially appointed Roberto Mancini as the new head coach of the national team, marking a dramatic return to the role he previously held between 2018 and 2023.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) confirmed Mancini's appointment after the departure of Gennaro Gattuso, who left the position following Italy's failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The decision signals the federation's desire to restore stability and return the Azzurri to its glory days.

Mancini's first tenure as Italy manager remains one of the most memorable periods in the country's recent football history. Taking charge in 2018 after Italy's failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, he rebuilt the national team with a new generation of talented players and an attacking style of play.

His greatest achievement came in 2021 when Italy lifted the UEFA European Championship trophy after defeating England on penalties at Wembley. The Azzurri also went on a record-breaking unbeaten run, earning praise for their attractive football and resilience.

However, his first spell ended in 2023 when he resigned before taking over as Saudi Arabia's national team coach. Mancini now returns with the task of rebuilding confidence following another disappointing period for the four-time world champions.

Alongside Mancini's appointment, veteran coach Claudio Ranieri has been named the new Technical Director of Club Italia. His role will focus on overseeing football development, supporting the national teams, and helping shape the long-term technical direction of Italian football. The combination of Mancini's coaching experience and Ranieri's football expertise is expected to provide renewed optimism for Italian supporters.
