Udoka released an apology letter to the members of his team, players, supporters of the club and also his family members for putting them through the unwanted attention.
I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization, and my family for letting them down. I am sorry for putting the team in this difficult situation, and I accept the team’s decision. Out of respect for everyone involved, I will have no further comment.
The Celtics confirmed in an announcement on Thursday, September 22nd, that Udoka would be suspended for the entirety of the upcoming 2022-2023 season due to violations of team policies. However, assistant coach Joe Mazzulla will step in as head coach for the time being.
The 2021-2022 season was Udoka’s first in a head coach position after previously holding assistant coach roles with the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets. In his first year, he led the team to the NBA Finals.
