The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed the prize money structure for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), following an Executive Committee (ExCo) decision taken on 18 November 2023.
According to the approved framework, a total of $32 million will be distributed among the 24 participating teams, with rewards allocated based on how far each nation progresses in the tournament.
The tournament winners will receive the largest share, taking home $7 million, while the runners-up are set to earn $4 million. The two losing semi-finalists will each collect $2.5 million, amounting to $5 million at that stage.
Teams reaching the quarter-final stage will earn $1.3 million each, with the four quarter-finalists sharing a combined $5.2 million. Nations that progress to the round of 16 will be awarded $800,000 per team, totalling $6.4 million.
CAF has also ensured financial rewards for teams eliminated at the group stage. The two teams finishing third in their groups will receive $700,000 each, while the six teams that finish bottom of their groups will earn $500,000 apiece, amounting to $3 million.
The confirmed prize distribution reflects CAF’s continued commitment to improving financial incentives for national teams and strengthening football development across the continent.
