Gianluigi Buffon reportedly set to retire from football at age 45

One of the greatest goalkeepers to ever stand between the goalpost, Gianluigi Buffon is reportedly set to announce his retirement in the next few days.

Transfer news expert, Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on his official Twitter account on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. According to him, Gianluigi Buffon is expected to make the announcement in the next few days.

The former Italy, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain keeper missed out on promotion to Serie A last season and was due to continue with Parma until 2024. However, he is expected to terminate his contract with his boyhood club.

He started his career in the Parma youth academy and came full circle in 2021 as a free agent, having also represented Juventus twice and Paris Saint-Germain in the 2018-19 season. He made 657 Serie A appearances, 124 in the Champions League and a record 176 senior caps for Italy.
