The Unity Cup will commence on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, with Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago clashing in the first semi-final, followed by Nigeria versus Ghana the next day. The third-place playoff is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, with the final taking place later that evening.

Andy Howes, co-director of AfroSport, the organizing body, highlighted the Unity Cup as more than just a football event, emphasizing its deep cultural and commercial significance. He remarked that the tournament transcends sport, showcasing the talent of elite players, the prominence of African and Caribbean football, and the growing demographic of black football fans in English football.

He stated, “The Unity Cup is a tournament that really does evoke the often-used phrase ‘an event that goes beyond sport.' But with the array of elite stars and the profile of the teams involved, this event is not only important in terms of its cultural significance but also reflects the growing commercial importance of African and Caribbean football, as well as the growing demographic of black football fans within English football.”

The tournament's previous edition was held in 2004, featuring Nigeria, Jamaica, and the Republic of Ireland in a round-robin format, with Nigeria emerging victorious by winning both of its matches.
