The Ghana Football Association has officially announced the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars, with immediate effect.

The Portuguese tactician takes over the national team at a crucial stage, as Ghana intensifies preparations for upcoming international competitions. Queiroz replaces Otto Addo, bringing a wealth of experience at both club and international levels with him.

Why did Ghana sack Otto Addo?

Otto was sacked by the Ghanaian FA after the West African team experienced a series of losses in the past few months. The major blow was not qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and they have also recorded a series of losses in recent times.

He is coming into this role as head coach after years of managing several national teams including Portugal, Iran and Egypt, gaining a reputation for his tactical discipline and defensive organisation.

The appointment signals a strong intent from the Ghana FA to stabilise and strengthen the team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Queiroz is expected to hit the ground running and quickly implement his philosophy within the squad.

What is Ghana's group at the World Cup?

Ghana have been grouped alongside England, Croatia and Panama in Group L.
