The Ghanaian Football Association has confirmed the appointment of Otto Addo as the head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the friendly games against Nigeria and Uganda.

Otto Addo who is currently part of the coaching crew of Borussia Dortmund was given a 34-month contract which will see him at the helm of affairs at least until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He played for Ghana from 1999 to 2006 and will return to the role he held before the 2022 FIFA World Cup, after which he left to take a role at Dortmund.

The news of Addo's appointment was confirmed on the official X account of both Dortmund and Ghana.

The Ghanaian FA statement was as follows;

"Otto was exceptional in the interview process and was rated highly by the search committee, hence the decision. There were some brilliant individuals among the coaches who applied for the job, so the committee took the pain to interview a chunk of them to pick their thoughts on their intentions to transform the team within a short period due to our peculiar situation. The committee was overly satisfied with Otto's performance for which reason he was recommended to the Executive Council for approval."

Ghana have been without a head coach since Chris Hughton's departure in the middle of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in January 2024, where the Black Stars were eliminated at the group stage.
