France receive devastating news ahead of 2nd Euro 2024 fixture

France's pursuit for European glory might be up for debate as the national side have received a piece of devastating news ahead of the second Euro 2024 fixture.

Following what many have categorised as a shaky start or win for France at the Euro 2024, in the fixture against Austria, Didier Deschamps' team have received more bad news following the confirmed injury of the captain of the squad Kylian Mbappe.

The French national team in an official statement confirmed that Kylian Mbappe had suffered from a nose fracture and as such would be forced to wear a face mask for the remainder of the Euro 2024 tournament or his treatment period.

The official statement released read, “Kylian Mbappé returns to the base camp of the French national team. Kylian Mbappé suffered a broken nose during the second part of the Austria-France held this Monday in Düsseldorf. The captain of France was treated first by the medical staff and Dr. Franck Le Gall, who diagnosed him with a nose fracture. Mbappé will receive treatment in the next few days, but he will not undergo surgery in the immediate future. A mask will be made for him so that the number 10 of the French national team can prepare for his return to the competition after a period dedicated to treatment”.

France vs Netherlands: Kylian Mbappe injury update

According to reports by media outlets such as CNN, Kylian Mbappe might not be available for the important Euro 2024 fixture, France vs Netherlands.

With both Les Bleus and the Netherlands having secured victories in their opening matches, the competition for the top position in Group D has essentially become a direct contest.

There is some optimism that the forward, who is set to join Real Madrid, will be back for their final group match against Poland.

Mbappe, whose cross led to the decisive own goal by Maximilian Wober against Austria, has rejoined his teammates at their base in Paderborn after undergoing examinations at University Hospital Dusseldorf. Currently, he does not need surgery, but the French medical team will keep monitoring his condition.

Didier Deschamps reacts to Kylian Mbappe's injury ahead of France vs Netherlands

French head coach Didier Deschamps has reacted to the injury of Kylian Mbappe in the team's opening fixture of the Euro 2024 against Austria. The coach hinted that although Mbappe picking up an injury had not been in their plans, the team will have to fight regardless at the Euro 2024 tournament.

He said, "The national squad will always be stronger with Kylian. But if the news does not go along these lines we will have to fight without him. But Kylian is Kylian and every team is stronger with him in it."
