Erik Ten Hag in his post-match press conference opened up on what his side could have done better in the Chelsea vs Man United fixture which was played on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Man United, expressed his belief that his team could have better managed their game in the closing stages, as they lost 4-3 to Chelsea in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea took an early two-goal lead, with Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer scoring, before United responded with two goals of their own, scored by Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes, to level the game at 2-2 at half-time.

Antony provided a sublime assist for Garnacho to score and put United ahead at 3-2, and they looked poised to secure a remarkable comeback win as the match entered its final stages.

However, things took a dramatic turn in the extra time of the fixture as Chelsea were awarded a penalty after Diogo Dalot fouled Noni Madueke. Cole Palmer scored the penalty to equalize the game at 3-3 and then scored the winning goal with almost the last kick of the game.

Erik Ten Hag was very critical of his side as he revealed they could have managed the game better and could have also made better last-minute decisions on the pitch when they had the lead in the game.

He said, "We started poor by giving the ball away, defending poorly on the first two occasions. But by that moment already, you saw we were dominating the game and we returned in the game. It was brilliant how we played and we deserved to win this game. But you can't give it away like we did."

He went on to add, "It's definitely a setback, but now we have to deal with this, to get up again and we will do. We are resilient. You have seen today how resilientwe are, how we returned in the game, the quality of our football, how wecan play outstanding football in moments, some really high [moments]. But football is about results and you have to bring it over the time."
