Enzo Maresca explains why he didn't play Raheem Sterling against Man City

Enzo Maresca has explained his reason for not including Raheem Sterling in the Premier League team news against Manchester City which ended in a defeat at Stamford Bridge

The game was clouded with Enzo Maresca's decision to leave out Raheem Sterling from the team news against Manchester City. There were several reports that the future of the England international was in doubt at Chelsea following the club's decision to bring in Pedro Neto from Wolves .

However, Enzo Maresca confirmed during his post-match press conference after the game against Manchester City that his decision to leave out Raheem Sterling was tactical. According to him, there was no special reason for leaving out the midfielder from the team list.

He said,

" It was a tactical decision, no more than that. In the next day, we will clarify in case we need to. I've been clear, it's a tactical decision."

Sterling's camp also released a statement confirming that there was no problem between the player and the club. However, he will hope he finds a way to break into Maresca's first team as the season progresses.
