Chelsea and Argentina midfielder, Enzo Fernandez has apologised to the French national team following the video that was posted on the Argentine's Instagram story which did not go well with the French.

The Argentina national team’s celebrations after winning the Copa América included a partially live-streamed rendition of a racist chant from the 2022 World Cup, aimed at the France national team’s players.

Enzo Fernandez was singled out by most football fans around the world for partaking in the act and also using his social media account to promote what has been seen to be racism towards the French players. However, the midfielder posted an apology note to his official social media accounts, expressing how sorry he felt for making the video.

He said,

“I want to apologise sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations. The song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words. I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologise for getting caught up in the euphoria of our Copa America celebrations. That video, that moment, those words, do not reflect my beliefs or my character. I am truly sorry.”

Recall that the President of the French FA, Philippe Diallo released a statement to that effect by condemning the situation, racist comments and discriminatory remarks made against the French team players in a song sung by Argentina team players and supporters.

The statement read thus,

"The president of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo, strongly condemns the unacceptable racist and discriminatory remarks made against the French team players in a song sung by Argentina team players and supporters after their Copa America victory, which was broadcast in a video on social media."

Chelsea are currently investigating the situation while Fofana, Malo Gusto, and Axel Disasi have all unfollowed Enzo on Instagram.
