English FA slam Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta with new charges
The English FA has slammed Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta with new charges following his outburst after the Gunners match against Newcastle.
Mikel Arteta had branded the decision by the VAR to allow Anthony Gordon's goal, which handed Newcastle the victory in the fixture, as disgraceful. This has prompted a direct response from the English FA.
The English FA stated in an official statement addressed the issue, saying, "Mikel Arteta has been charged with a breach of FA rule E3.1 following comments that he made in media interviews after Arsenal's Premier League game against Newcastle United on Saturday 4 November. It's alleged that his comments constitute misconduct as they are insulting towards match officials and/or detrimental to the game and/or bring the game into disrepute. Mikel Arteta has until Tuesday 21 November to provide a response to the charge."
Although no official decision has been made regarding what the manager will receive as punishment for his statement, the possibility of a touchline ban in Arsenal's next fixture is one many can't take off the table. Arteta might also be mandated to pay a huge fine.
In an official statement, Arsenal initially announced their support for the manager; with the recent development of things, many expect the club to take a stance and challenge the charge against the head coach.
