The Pharoahs of Egypt beat Djibouti 3-0 in Casablanca to seal their spot for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The North Africans were impressive in the game with Liverpool's Mohamed Salah lead the line for Egypt by scoring two the three goals. The 33-year-old has netted nine times in a marathon qualifying campaign that began two years ago, and victory for Egypt gave them an unassailable five-point lead in Group A with one round remaining.

Ibrahim Adel put Egypt after eight minutes, Salah netted six minutes later and again on 84 minutes to complete the scoring.

Egypt will be heading to the competition full of confidence having won the Africa Cup of Nations a record seven times. They have been less successful in World Cup qualifying, qualifying for the tournament just four times in 15 attempts .

How many times have Egypt been to the World Cup?

(1) 1934 (Italy)

Egypt became the first African nation ever to play in a World Cup. They were eliminated in the Round of 16 after losing 4–2 to Hungary in a single-elimination format.

(2) 1990 (Italy)

After a 56-year absence, Egypt returned to the World Cup. They were placed in a group with England, Ireland, and the Netherlands, drawing two games and losing one. Egypt finished bottom of their group and did not advance to the knockout stage.

(3) 2018 (Russia)

Led by Mohamed Salah, Egypt qualified for their third World Cup. However, injuries to key players and poor form saw them lose all three group matches — against Uruguay (0–1), Russia (1–3), and Saudi Arabia (1–2) — finishing last in Group A.
