David Raya sends strong message to Aaron Ramsdale

Brentford's goalkeeper, David Raya, has spoken about his relationship with Aaron Ramsdale after he broke into the Gunners' first team.

Aaron Ramsdale was the number-one choice for Arsenal since he completed his move from Sheffield United during the 2022 summer transfer window until last week when David Raya was chosen as a preferred option in the game against Everton.

He retained his place for Arsenal's first Champions League game since 2017 as the Gunners thrashed PSV 4-0 on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. The Spanish international joined the London side on loan from Brentford until the end of this season (2023/24).

Raya was asked about the decision of Mikel Arteta to draft him into the first team.

"That's his choice, it's not my choice. If Aaron comes back in he needs to fight for the team and to win games. I think it's the first time that two top goalies are on the same team. That's just part of football now. The gaffer wants two top players for each position and that's what we have to work with."

He also spoke about the possibility of starting the North London derby against Tottenham.

"I played the last two games and I don't know what's going to happen on Sunday."

The situation is been monitored by Chelsea and Bayern Munich, as both clubs are looking at the possibility of bringing in Ramsdale when the January 2024 transfer window opens.
