Ronaldo was accused by Kathryn Mayorga, of raping her at a Las Vega hotel in 2009, however, the Portuguese denied all the allegations that were levelled against him. She was ready to settle out of court in 2010, and ready to take a settlement of $375,000

The US judge, Jennifer Dorsey decided to kick the case out for "bad-faith conduct" and the use of "purloined" confidential documents that the judge said tainted the case beyond redemption.

I find that the procurement and continued use of these documents was bad faith, and simply disqualifying Stovall will not cure the prejudice against Ronaldo because the misappropriated documents and their confidential contents have been woven into the very fabric of [plaintiff Kathryn] Mayorga's claims.

Dorsey said in her order that dismissing a case outright with no option to file it again is a severe sanction.
